Sunday 10:28 AM :: "Why?"

WHY is Information Lost? the Answer may require an Ego-death Experience.
by Pat Darnell

Why do we constantly reach out to touch our past?

Research is what it is: a re-touch, read again, dissect the past, oblivion, a lossy compression... and some say it is the Hebrew alphabet. (LINK) Our sensory limitations are stretched when we are asked to go by faith, believing in past things.

Mummy hunters in Egypt look into tombs and find bones of who knows who; why? In quests for understanding, we often lose our sense of priority, and go barging into grave sites.

Curious about our past, some even read and re-read Hemingway to find a clue. In that context, clues are few and far between, and overly cryptic info is rarely easily absorbed by living brains; brains that want to compress information into patterns of recognizable tidbits. That stops no one, though, as we build our machines in like form. A trade off some might say; as human sensory scales are limited.
Our computers use compression algorithms that make data more sortable, as some data is repetitive. By taking advantage of the limitations of the human sensory system, a great deal of space can be saved while producing an output which is nearly indistinguishable from the original. These lossy data compression methods typically offer a three-way tradeoff between compression speed, compressed data size and quality loss.
Why then is it the past-present-and future is so odd in a rarefied existence sort of way? Because we go outward when we are discovering the past, as in space exploration, where information in the form of light takes light years to reach our sensors. And, as we travel inward, the same perplexity of information escapes our limited human experience; as we approach tiniest "substances" of multi-dimensioned matter that exist beyond our vision.

Memory is our foothold. For instance my wife and I both have expressed at various times "how" we remember the kids as babies. Once we were looking at photographs, and our daughter, as a baby, was dressed in a familiar jumpsuit. My wife said she remembers how the little jump suit felt in her hands. In remembering these valuable sensory events about our children, we are at our most transparent, or ego-dead moments.

Truth is -- information is not lost, but it takes faith to fill in the blanks when duplications are encoded, and the original is long gone.
"The ancients studied the patterns in the heavens- I ... [Stan Tenen] ... began to think, 'What would happen if you could map the patterns of the temples of the heavens onto the temples of your mind?' The patterns in the Hebrew Bible are the same as those in the heavens; when you chant regularly you are weaving these patterns onto your mind, internalizing the patterns of the universe-stepping out of your skin to have an ego-death experience." Welfare, Choice, Politics, Ambition, Enlightenment

Pastor with GUTS!
Retrieved from email FWD by Pat Darnell  |  [Source Unknown]
Thought you might enjoy this interesting prayer given in Kansas at the opening session of their Senate. It seems prayer still upsets some people.. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask
your forgiveness and
to seek your
direction and
guidance. We know
Your
Word says, 'Woe to those
who call evil
good,' but that is exactly what we
have done.
We have
lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed
our values.
We have exploited the poor and
called it
the lottery.
We have
rewarded laziness and called it
welfare..
We have
killed our unborn and called it
choice.
We have shot abortionists and
called it
justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline
our children and called it building
self esteem....
We have abused power and called it
politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's
possessions and called it ambition.
We have
polluted
the air with
profanity and pornography
and
called it
freedom of expression.
We have
ridiculed the time-honored values
of our forefathers and called it
enlightenment.
Search us,
Oh, God,
and know our hearts
today; cleanse
us from every sin and set us free.
Amen!
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea .

Commentator
Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, 'The Rest of the Story,'and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called 'one nation under God.'

Exonerate Yourself :: Did it Occur to anyone to Ask -- a Hallmark Moment

A woman came home from work late, tired and irritated,
to find her 5-year old son waiting for her at the door.

SON: 'Mummy, may I ask you a question?'

MUM: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the woman.

SON: 'Mummy, how much do you make an hour?'

MUM: 'That's none of your business.
Why do you ask such a thing?' the woman said angrily.

SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?'

MUM: 'If you must know, I make $20 an hour.'

SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.

SON: "Mummy, may I please borrow $5?"

The mother was furious,
'If the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a
silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room
and go to bed.
Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.'

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut
the door..

The woman sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions.
How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the woman had calmed down, and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $5 and he really didn't ask for money very often.
The woman went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door.

'Are you asleep, son?' She asked.

'No Mummy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.

'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the woman.
'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $5 you asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you Mummy!' he yelled.
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The woman saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his mother.

'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the mother grumbled.

'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.

'Mummy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time?

SING as if no one is listening. DANCE as if no one is watching. LOVE as if you have never been loved before.
Retrieved by Pat Darnell
[SOURCE Unknown]

" ... Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport.. They had announced the departure. Standing near the security gate, they hugged, and the mother said, 'I love you, and I pray you enough.'

The daughter replied, 'Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I pray you enough, too, Mom.'

They kissed, and the daughter left. The mother walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there, I could see she wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on her privacy, but she welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?'

Yes, I have,' I replied. 'Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?'

'Well...I'm not as young as I once was, she lives so far away & has her own busy life. I have some challenges ahead, and the reality is - her next trip back will be for my funeral,' she said.

'When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I pray you enough.' May I ask what that means?'

She began to smile. 'That's a prayer that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone.' She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and she smiled even more. 'When we said, 'I pray you enough,' we wanted the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them.'

Then, turning toward me, she shared the following as if she were reciting it from memory.
I pray you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear..
I pray you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I pray you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
I pray you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
I pray you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I pray you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I pray you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.
Then, she began to cry, and walked away.

They say, it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but an entire life to forget them. ... "

Rage -- Get it to the Maker, He needs all that you have

by Pat Darnell

Rage is the observable pace and speed of the Spirit of God the Father Almighty Maker of Heaven and Earth.... so I say.

Why say that? Simple: it is too easy to skip over unless one is "slowed down" and able to see better.

It is said that rabbi's practice three-day fasts, having only water, to cleanse themselves for an important event. And it is also done when important decisions must be made. How are we to judge others if we are not some how transformed into a better judge?

So it is with seeing the blinding, raging, speeding works of God. Think it over.

Clues are all over the Bible; in both books. The old testaments suggest a seven spirited God, whose name cannot be said. The new testaments, especially Revelations of John, repeat the same seven spirits of God, seven heads, seven seals. It is a pretty important number; so must be number three, but I have heard rabbi's sometimes have seven day fasts when confronted with enormous decisions.

This is what I want to say: if you have rage ... and almost everyone does ... then point it directly to God through Jesus Christ. That is the crux of this post. God in his infinite conservation of all things will use your rage. Where you fail in emotional upheaval, He creates and puts everything to good use.

Would you ever say "the volcano flows calmly in bows of gentle turns" ? No you are more likely to say "the volcano rages." God, in one of His "seven" spirits creates, controls and, recycles, volcanoes in raging speed.

Restoration Churches in America

An Explanation
Retrieved verbatim by Pat Darnell  |  McTavish, TJM. c2005. A Theological Miscellany

[Page 89 ...]
The term restoration churches refers to groups that have formed to restore what they believe to be the practice of the New Testament church, renouncing all creeds and holding only to the Bible as their authority. The movement began in North America in the early 1800's and is also called the "Christians-only-movement." It had two main thrusts

  1. emulating the New Testament church
  2. restoring the unity of the Church by avoiding denominational structures

Over time the movement divided between these two aims. Those stressing early Christian practices largely withdrew from contact with other churches while those who sought unity other churches lost many of the "primitive" or early Christian traits.

In the process, the movement to end denominational-ism resulted in the formation of many new denominations, though. [M]ost restorations groups refuse to be considered denominations and avoid organizations and avoid organizations that officially link their local churches.

Because many of these churches call themselves "Christian" or "Churches of Christ" it is often hard to tell which branch of the movement they belong to.

Thus:
Groups stemming from the "Christians Only" movement include:

  • Christian Church -- Disciples of Christ
  • Christian Churches and Churches of Christ -- Independent
  • Churches of Christ -- Non-instrumental
  • International Churches of Christ -- "Crossroads" or "Boston" movement

The Rhetoric of Tiger Woods -- Buddhist Golf Man

See entire Transcript and Video HERE

[Video at 13:25] BUDDHISM ? -- YIKES !!
[Excerpts]  “ ... I recognize I have brought this on myself. And I know, above all, I am the one who needs to change. I owe it to my family to become a better person. I owe it to those closest to me to become a better man. That's where my focus will be. I have a lot of work to do. I tend to dedicate myself to doing it. Part of following this path for me is Buddhism which my mother taught me at a young age. People probably don't realize it but I was raised a Buddhist and practiced my faith until I drifted away from it. This teaches me to stop following every impulse and to learn restraint. Obviously, I lost track of what I was taught."
[ ... ]
Therapy, Rehab ? -- Double YIKES !!
“ ... As I move forward, I will continue to receive help because I have learned that's how people really do change. Starting tomorrow, I will leave for more treatment and more therapy. I would like to thank my friends at Accenture and the players in the field this week for understanding why I am making these remarks today. In therapy, I have learned the importance of looking at my spiritual life and keeping in balance with my professional life. I need to regain my balance and be centered so I can save the things most important to me, my marriage and my children. That also means relying on others for help. I have learned to seek support from my peers in therapy and someday hope to return that support to others who are seeking help ... " (Woods, T. Excerpts retrieved today by PD)

My Carpenter Prayer

by Pat Darnell

Make my tools true
and strong
My hands to never tremble
construct never wrong

Make this house
a dwelling of peace
on foundation of rock

Walls square, plumb
with roof that
sheds tears
from the world

Walls that allow
peaceful slumber
... no makeshift doors
no rotten lumber

Make only doors
hinged for my
Prince of Peace

Plane blessingson
this dwelling
with hope, charity
and a garden of faith surround
Amen.

Go Ahead

by Pat Darnell

Go ahead, blame God
for knowing
all the eventualities

Blame God
for putting ban
on human contact
Blame God
for planting
seed of choice

Blame God
for putting His
face upon you

Blame God
for leavening
of Man

Blame God
for the understatement
that is Christ

Go ahead, blame God
if you must
but do it
with all you are

I say, do it
with your all.

This Just In :: From Field Correspondent Vinnie Visconti

Challenge: Read only if you have time for God

V.V.  |  Wisconsin  |  03.25.2010
God, when I received the following e-mail, I thought... I don't have time for this... And, this is really inappropriate during work.

Then, I realized this kind of thinking is "exactly," what has caused a lot of the problems with our world today.

We try to keep God in church on Sunday morning...

Maybe, Sunday night...

And, the unlikely event of a midweek service.

We do like to have Him around during sickness....

And, of course, at funerals.

However, we don't have time, or room, for Him during work or play? Because.. That's part of our lives we think we can, and should, handle on our own.
We must always have time to remember all HE has done for us.
Jesus said, 'If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father.'
Not ashamed?
Pass on the Good News -- "Yes, I do Love God! HE is my source of existence and Savior."
He keeps me functioning each and every day. Without Him, I will be nothing. But, with Christ, HE strengthens me. (Phil 4:13)
This is the simplest test. If You Love God... And, are not ashamed of all the marvelous things HE has done for you... Then tell ten people how you got the message!

Now do you have the time to pass it on?

(Mr Visconti is single, while today lives and works in Wisconsin, but has lived in many places including Illinois, Texas, and Florida. He is currently contemplating making another extended visit to Foggia, Italy, where he has fifty-three cousins, aunts and uncles -- at last count.) ed. pd

Steadfast

God's Wings

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage.

One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree.

Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings.

The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise.

She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast....because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live.

'He will cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you will find refuge.' (Psalm 91:4)

Time waits for no one. Treasure every moment you have. You will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone Special.

To realize the value of a Friend...lose one.

Exonerate Yourself :: Did it Occur to anyone to Ask -- What's in a Name?

[SOURCE]
Should the motto "In God We Trust" be removed from U.S. currency? * 18356936 responses

Yes. It's a violation of the principle of separation of church and state.
11%

No. The motto has historical and patriotic significance and does nothing to establish a state religion.
89%

Not a scientific survey. Click to learn more. Results may not total 100% due to rounding.

Has it ever occurred to anyone to ask 'the reason' the symbolic name GOD is so picked on? Did I hear correctly in Sunday School that our Ancient of days Rabbis's made it impossible for anyone to use God the Creator Almighty's name in vain -- by conveniently not passing the name down to others ... it was therefore forgotten. GOD, or other abbreviated names, are pretty much acronyms.

Putting this motto on our various symbols of State is simply to remind us all that forces 'out there' are immensely, much, much greater than us 'down here' and are controlled by GOD out there, while our ability to print money, or to proliferate is about the height of our accomplishment here on the Earth ... I am humbled in that realization.

Get rid of the litigations by making it illegal to redesign, plagiarize or undo, our creeds and motto's.
